John Nash is a massive overall wearing, toothless, handlebar mustache bearing, former welder for my dad, who got hit with a beer truck and got paid millions of dollars. And sometimes he brings lunch to the office.
John Nash tells stories of his past that make you roll on the floor with laughter and hysterically cry in sympathy at the same time.
John Nash cannot drive through the southern part of Louisiana because one time he got beat up in a bar then proceeded to tear the whole place down. Fortunately for him the judge of the town also owned the bar, so instead of going to jail John made a custom bar for the judge. He may or may not have seriously injured / killed people there. No one really knows.
His hands are so muscular that yours hand cannot even wrap around his when you give him a good handshake.
Several years ago John Nash came to work for my Dad in the Rig Up Yard. John Nash found Jesus while standing outside the bible study my Dad has on Friday mornings. He could not go in because the soul in him was so lost, but he heard the WORD through the door and Jesus found HIM. It was awesome and completely transformed him and life and his wife.
John Nash does not work my Dad anymore, but he is like family and visits quiet often. Today John Nash brought made from scratch corn bread and collard greens. My mom and I have never in our entire life eaten collard greens, so when John found that out he was completely appalled and set out to remedy our desperate situation.
I am not going to lie, we were a little scared to eat them. But man oh man were they good!!!
I am pretty sure John Nash is the next Julia Childs. I am also pretty sure he could host his own show on the food network, "How to survive in the wild after you have been released from prison and have no work - Gourmet Style".
The way John Nash talks about BBQ makes my little oh heart go pitter patter. Makes me want to show up on his front door step with a cooler full of meat. I need to learn his ways. I asked for his dry rub recipe and you would have thought I had slapped him in the face.
Anyways, we LOVE John Nash - my dream is to dress him up in red coveralls with a Santa hat and have him ride around in our red drilling rig in the yard and take a picture for our next company Christmas Card. Wish I had a picture to show you... He is like a Texan Santa bearing gifts of BBQ.
The point: He brought lunch today and man was it good!
Another point: I am hosting the first Hill blog book giveaway today! I am giving away TWO copies of Fight Like a Girl by Lisa Bevere --- you can click on that link to see a blog I wrote about this book a long time ago.

Goode Company BBQ!! :)
Oh, definitely Valley Ranch BBQ - it tastes amazing and is owned by a man that deeply loves the Lord!
And the reason I like being a girl...Proverbs 31:10-30...
Yep, that about covers everything womanly that I can strive to accomplish in the Lord!

Ok here we go:
My favorite BBQ would be exposed on a road trip. Would you like to come?
First we will take a trip down Holleman in college station to Rudy's for some cream corn. Talk about make your mouth water.
Next we're going to head down Hwy 6 to Orange TX- that's right... JBs BBQ. The most juicy and flavorful chipped beef sandwich I have ever had. They cook their beef until it falls apart. Take note- this sandwich is not cut at all- more like it fell apart into my mouth. Yum.
Our last stop on this glorious road trip will be up through Amarillo to Sleightons in Colorado Springs, CO. (because my husband loves it). He will eat the kansas style burnt ends, and then we would finish off the wonderful road trip with delicious vanilla bourbon bread pudding- yum.
LOVE
your bestie
My idea of great BBQ would have to come from Rudy's, specifically the one in Austin off of 620 and 2222. (No other Rudy's has YET to compare to the service or taste...even if it IS the same restaurant)
But most importantly you must eat it after coming in from a long, hot, relaxing day out on the lake with friends. Nothing beats extra lean brisket and a shared cup of banana pudding to top off a Texas summer day.
As for the reason why I like being a girl: I like being a girl because I get to feel sassy wearing red pumps, because I get to love and nurture 170 high school students at the age of 23, and because I will get to learn and be lead by a wonderful man who loves Jesus Christ.
Oh man, I may lose on this one account...I am not a big BBQ eater. The reason is I don't eat much meat, not for any certain reason other than I would like to fill up on veggies, fruit, and bread.
I will go with why I like being a girl. Being a woman gives me the chance to be a wife and a mother.
I feel that these two things are the highest callings if you are indeed a girl.
Put aside societies thoughts on how we should "rise up" and take charge.
Take away the feminist extremist attitudes.
Take away the "rule with your iron fist" mentality.
Set aside your insecurities in yourself and what do you have?
A soft hearted, passionate, nurturing, loving, emotional, supportive, and much much more...human being.
God created us with so much to give. That is our nature. If we don't let pride and anger get in the way, the nature of how we are made is simply amazing.
I love being a girl because I get to lovingly lay myself down before my Lord first and second support my husband in all he does as well as look forward to raising our future children together.
God made me a girl so I take what I learn and run with it, always looking for opportunities to help other girls do the same!
Coopers bbq in Llano is pretty much the most amazing bbq ever... you start out walking up to a huge bbq pit outside (one of about 60) point to which piece of meat you want and the guy pulls it off and you pay by the pound when you get inside; the food is fabulous and the experience is really unique!
Best BBQ can depend on where you are and I have to agree with the ones who go with Rudy's, that place is always great... but when I'm home, Bartley's in Grapevine is best. You can check it out in the latest "D Magazine" as one of the best in Dallas. The smoke, the sauce and then the best desserts, especially the pecan cobbler, it's really hard to beat.
On being a girl, ending up with 2 incredible boys and a great husband, life doesn't get much better than that.
After having visited roughly 20% of the Texas top 50 bbq joints, I will have to say The Coutry Tavern in Kilgore, TX still has the best bbq ribs around. If I were to only eat bbq at one place for the rest of my life, I would be perfectly happy only eating there.
I LOVE BBQ
My favorite place for BBQ is Valley Ranch off 249.
And i love being a girl because i have the best girlfriends in the entire world. :)
welcome to the family of collard greens! i love em!
Hmmmm.....best BBQ would be maybe County Line or Salt Lick. I almost never eat BBQ. Shhh, don't tell Texas.
